Effective May 1st, 2024 burn permits are required for Hazard Reduction burning, both by Tuolumne County Air Pollution District and by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).
Cal Fire permits have safety restrictions such as limiting pile size to 4ft by 4ft, requiring a 10 foot clearance down to bare earth and a person in attendance at all times with water and a shovel. No burning shall be undertaken unless weather conditions, especially wind, are such that burning can be considered safe. Cal Fire Debris Burning Information here
