Responsibilities of the Tuberculosis Control Program:

  • Provide education and resources to community providers.
  • Perform contact investigations to interrupt the spread of disease.
  • Case-manage Active TB Disease cases.
  • Ensure appropriate hospital discharges of patients on TB Disease medication.
  • Receive and review reports of suspected or confirmed Active TB Disease cases.
  • Report confirmed cases to the California Department of Public Health.

Reporting Suspected or Confirmed Active TB Disease:

Reporting is mandated by Title 17, California Code of Regulations

Health and Safety Code §121362 states that all health facilities shall not discharge, transfer, or release a patient until notification and a written plan has been submitted and approved by the Local Health Officer for all people known or suspected to have active tuberculosis.
