On August 26, the Washington Fire ignited near Highway 108 and Golf Links Road. The fire rapidly swept up the hillside and over and across Stockton Road into the City limits of Sonora. Aggressive aerial and ground firefighting stopped the forward spread by early morning. Ultimately the #WashingtonFire consumed 100 acres, destroyed 18 structures, and damaged one more. This incredible effort was assisted by resources from the area including those sent from the nearby Airola Fire and from as far away as the Monument Fire in far Northern California.
