What’s better than curling up with a good book? Cuddling up with a Paws to Read therapy dog and a good book!
On Wednesday, March 26th, the Tuolumne County Library at 480 Greenley Road, Sonora, CA will offer a special afterschool Paws to Read program for young readers. Children sign-up to read for 15 minutes to the trained and certified with Therapy Dogs International therapy dog, Hana from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Children will meet the dog in the Sonora Main Children’s Room where they can select a book or bring a favorite one to read to Hana.
Paws to Read is a very simple concept: Children read to dogs. The dogs listen and don’t tease, laugh, or judge the child. Research has shown that children who practice their reading skills by reading to trained therapy dogs improve their reading abilities, gain confidence, and find reading more enjoyable.
Parents and guardians can call the library at 533-5507 or stop in at the Sonora Main Library for more information and to sign their child up to read to a therapy dog.
