Recorder Vital Records
Birth Certificates
To obtain a copy of a birth certificate by coming to the Recorder’s office or by mail, you will need to provide the following information: - The full name of the child
- The child's place of birth
- The mother's full MAIDEN name
- The father's full name (if on the certificate)
- The complete address where the copy is to be mailed, if applicable
- A signed, sworn statement, with Notary Acknowledgment
Please allow three working days, after receipt, to process your request. You may download an application to request a birth record here or contact the California Department of Health for an application.
The cost for searching a Vital Record is not refundable if the record is not found.
Death Certificates
To obtain a copy of a death certificate by coming to the Recorder’s office or by mail, you will need to provide the following information:- The deceased's full name at the time of death
- The date of death
- The place of death
- The deceased’s date of birth, if known
- The complete address where the copy is to be mailed, if applicable
- A signed, sworn statement with notary acknowledgment
Ordering a Death Certificate
Submit your request with your check / money order in the amount of $24, payable to the Tuolumne County Recorder - do not send cash. Provide a stamped, self-addressed return envelope when requesting by mail.Please allow three working days after we receive the request to process the information. You may download an application to request a death record here.
Marriage Certificates
To obtain a copy of a marriage certificate by coming to the Recorder’s Office or by mail, you will need to provide the following information:- The full name of the bride at the time of marriage
- The name of the groom
- The date of marriage
- The complete address where the copy is to be mailed, if applicable
- A signed, sworn statement, with notary acknowledgement
Payment
Submit your request with your check / money order in the amount of $17, payable to the Tuolumne County Recorder - do not send cash. Provide a stamped, self-addressed, return envelope when requesting by mail.Please allow three working days after we receive the request to process it.You may download application to request a marriage record here.

Credit Card or Online Orders
Tuolumne County does not accept credit cards or online orders. However, you may process online requests through VitalChek Network, Inc., an independent company that we have partnered with to provide you this service.An additional fee is charged by VitalChek for using this service, and all major credit cards are accepted, including American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa.
