The Tuolumne County General Plan is the constitution for growth and development in Tuolumne County. The county’s land development regulations, such as the zoning ordinance, land divisions ordinance, fire safety standards, water and sewers, road standards, and all land development projects must be consistent with the general plan.

On September 17, 2013, the Board of Supervisors directed County Planning Staff to conduct a comprehensive update of the Tuolumne County General Plan designating the Board of Supervisors Planning Committee (BOSPC) as the steering committee for the General Plan Update. Please refer to the General Plan Update page for more information on this update. On August 5, 2014 the Board of Supervisors executed an Agreement for Preparation of Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs) with Rincon Consultants, Inc. for the General Plan and Regional Transportation Plan. The update of the General Plan is being coordinated with the Tuolumne County Transportation Council’s update of the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP).

The Planning Division of the Community Resources Agency assists the Board of Supervisors in defining the goals and policies, and implementing the programs within the general plan. This is accomplished through review of land development applications, review of county projects, and revising land development regulations.

The Planning Division strives to assist land owners in achieving their goals and desires for use of their property while promoting the safety and welfare of the public, and protecting the county’s cultural assets and natural environment for the enjoyment of current and future residents.

To assist with this mission, the Planning Division provides staff support to several commissions and committees.
